Inspired by trips to Tahiti (a magical place) and the wildlife found there, Matisse created many pieces using the shapes of the birds and especially the corals he saw there. Two of these pieces were the tapestries Polynesia, the Sky and Polynesia, the Sea both created in 1946.
This necklace is particularly inspired by Polynesia, the Sky and shows two white birds in flight along with a piece of coral in red or blue.
All pieces are cut from acrylic with stainless steel fixings and 18 inch chain.
